Alan Shearer has written in his column for The Sun, that Wayne Rooney needs to retire from international football to preserve his Manchester United career. We dropped the quote on Twitter and Facebook this morning, and it's been getting some interesting replies from you lot!
Alan Shearer thinks it's time for Rooney to quit England, what do you make of that?! #MUFC pic.twitter.com/xmmAaiIbp9

I'm torn, on one hand, I generally care very little about the English national team, which is a view a lot of reds have, on the other I think it might work. I'd love to see Rooney become an integral and important, productive part of this Jose Mourinho team. His experience and leadership is something I feel our squad is lacking, even more so when he isn't playing. But he certainly carries his age more than he should for a player who is only 30 years old. Would retiring from England boost that? Some fans we spoke to at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday think he's already past it!
We all saw the outrage when Scholes decided to call it a day, he was 29 years old and hadn't set records like Rooney had. So I do think this would cause an unnecessary media storm at a time when we just don't need that.
From a selfish United point of view, yeah. Call it a day. Help us win our 21st title this season and forget the abject failure of England. But from a (trying to be) neutral point of view, he actually looks as if he enjoys playing for his country. So who knows what the right answer could be?! What do you guys think?
