The new Premier League season is about to kick off and I think us lot, as United fans, are about as excited as I have ever seen! It's awesome! But while Jose has a team of analysts helping him get the United starting XI honed to perfection, your fantasy team has only you! So that's where I come in. I'm going to give you a few tips ahead of this weekend's games so that you can make some decent choices for your fantasy team, but from a heavily biased United angle!
Ahead of the kickoff, The Football Republic & Full Time Devils have partnered with FanDuel for an exciting new fantasy football tournament.
If you want to prove you’re a managerial magician and take on OUR team, join The Football Republic Challenge before the action gets underway on Saturday. It costs just £1 to enter and pick your lineup, with money prizes up for grabs.
In FanDuel , you can change your entire starting 11 every single weekend and there are weekly cash prizes to be won if your Ranieri-esque tinkering sees you climb to the top of the league each weekend!
You have £100 million to splash on your side – so spend wisely, these guys could be earning you real cash by the end of the week! So who should you be looking at selecting for this weekend's action?
Gameweek 1 Tips:
If you need a man to lead the line, there is no better man. Ibrahimovic scored against Galatasaray; he scored against Leicester, and he's very likely to score this weekend. The way points are awarded in FanDuel means that goals (obviously), assists, but also shots on target and chances created will earn you points. He's virtually the only guaranteed starter for United in a forward position, so he's extremely likely to play a part in what SHOULD be a win. He's going to cost you almost £12m, but it'll be worth it.
Wait, did I just pick the Bournemouth 'keeper for this weekend's fantasy team? Yes, I did! FanDuel's scoring system rewards goalkeepers for saves, and obviously for clean sheets. But Bournemouth conceded around 11.6 shots per game last season. Meaning, if United replicate that on Sunday, a 50% shot accuracy will see Boruc earn 18 points and only lose 1 or 2 points, depending on how many we score. Stack that up against the ten you would expect De Gea to receive for a clean sheet, and maybe a couple of saves (3 points each) and you see why Boruc is good value, especially as he is £2m cheaper than Spanish Dave.
Unlike a lot of other fantasy league platforms, FanDuel doesn't reward extra points for goal-scoring defenders or midfielders, so make sure you check the rules to see exactly what is going to get you solid points. Defenders also get nothing for a clean sheet, so I'll be going three at the back and top heavy in most games. Clinical strikers will not do as well as expected with the points you get for goals vs points awarded for shots on target, so you almost want the likes of Harry Kane, in there, taking shot after shot all game!
